Why Choose PSI?

PSI provides labs that are fully equipped with the tools and equipment that you can expect to be using in your job as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Our Physical Therapist Assistant  program includes 656 hours of clinical training. During this special training, you’ll work onsite in actual physical therapy departments and clinics shadowing a qualified professional where you can apply the skills you’ve learned during your campus labs! A dedicated clinical coordinator works closely with students to help match clinical sites best suited for their location and schedules.

Physical Therapist Assistant courses are taught by instructors who have a minimum of Bachelor of Science or Arts degree. In addition, every instructor is required to have at least 3 years of experience working as a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Students benefit from the real-world experience from instructors who have worked in the field.

Hybrid learning at PSI means you’ll complete lectures and assignments online while gaining essential, hands-on experience in our labs or clinical settings.

What Does a PTA Do?

Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) work under the direction and supervision of physical therapists to help patients recover from injuries and illnesses, regain movement, and manage pain. PTAs are responsible for implementing patient treatment plans through a variety of techniques such as therapeutic exercises, stretching, balance training, and soft tissue mobilization. Physical agents commonly used include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, lumbar and cervical traction, hydrotherapy, and diathermy. PTAs educate patients on the use of special equipment, such as a TENS unit, as part of their treatment plan. Other functions include preparing the treatment area, cleaning equipment, scheduling appointments, and ordering supplies.
